Paul W. Lindgren

ODEBOLT – Private family graveside services for Paul W. Lindgren, 95, of Odebolt (formerly of Arthur) will be Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Hayes Township Cemetery at Arthur. The Rev. Al Tunberg will officiate.

A joint celebration of life service, with his beloved wife, MaryAnn, will be at a later date.Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Odebolt is in charge of arrangements.

He died May 23, 2021, at Odebolt Specialty Care at Odebolt; he went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Paul W. Lindgren was born June 4, 1925, in Sac County to Algot and Ellen (Anderson) Lindgren. His family moved to rural Arthur in 1928, where he attended Blaine #8 for eight years. He graduated from Arthur High School in 1942.

Paul accepted Christ as his personal savior at 11, while attending VBS. He served in the U.S. armed services in field artillery at Fort Bragg, N.C.

He started farming in 1948 in Ida County. He was a member of Arthur Evangelical Free Church, where he served in various capacities.

On Sept. 30, 1949, Paul married MaryAnn Lindberg. They had three children: Nancy, Brent and Reed. The couple continued farming on the Lindgren home place until retirement.

Paul and MaryAnn were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage. He enjoyed moving bins and buildings and often commented that he would rather do that than fish or golf.

He is survived by his children: Nancy Youngren, Brent Lindgren and Reed Lindgren (friend, Cheryl Schultz), all of Odebolt.

Also surviving are five cherished grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren: Cherity (Ryan) Schroeder and their children, Isabelle, Alexandra, Olivia and Jack of Odebolt; Cassity (Abel) Gutierrez and their children, Ana, Mateo and Christian of West Des Moines; Preston (Morgan) Youngren and their children, Jayden, Jayston, Brady, Wynn and Kal of Odebolt; Jordan (Joel) Hustedt and their children, Eve and Jett of Galva; and James (Tisha) Lindgren and their children, Knox, Beckham, Ava and Jude of Urbandale.

Additional survivors include a sister, Betty (Wayne) Olson of Annandale, Va.; two brothers: Richard (Bobbie) Lindgren of Burney, Calif., and Dennis (Janet) Lindgren of Ida Grove; three brothers-in-law: Luverne (Marge) Rydberg of Alta, Harold Petersohn of Tacoma, Wa., and William (Arlene) Lindberg of Bartlett, Ill.; many special nieces and nephews; and extended family in the United States and Sweden.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn Lindgren (May 2020); his parents, Algot and Ellen Lindgren; and a brother, Iver (Peggy) Lindgren.

He also was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Lindgren (in infancy), Lois Rydberg, Virginia (Charles) McGee and Verna Devlin Petersohn; his in-laws: Floyd and Fidelia Lindberg; his brothers-in-law: John Lindberg and Milo Devlin; a son-in-law, Robert Youngren; and many lovingly remembered, extended family members.
