IDA GROVE - Services for Donald L. Shaw, 73, of Ida Grove were Oct. 9, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Richard Salcido officiated, with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery, Ida Grove. Military graveside honors were conducted by McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of American Legion. Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove was in charge of arrangements.
He died Oct. 3 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Born Jan. 26, 1939, in Ida Grove, Donald LeRoy Shaw was the son of William Burdette and Edna Clara (Albertson) Shaw. He grew up and received his education in Ida Grove, graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1957.
Don served in the U.S. Navy and then returned home to Iowa, where he worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many years. On May 14, 1988, he married Deloris Eng at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and American Legion. Don enjoyed fishing, puzzles, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and Legion activities.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris "Shorty" Shaw; his mother, Edna Shaw of Ida Grove; and three stepchildren: Gene Eng of Ida Grove, Vanessa Eng of Ida Grove and Tania Kaas of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are five grandchildren: Leah and Kira Eng, Mathew and Sarah Kaas and Maddy Slater; a brother, Gary Shaw of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Beverly Howe of New Orleans, La.; a niece and nephew, Karla Howe of Atlanta, Ga., and Kevin (Trina) Howe of Hurst, Texas and their son, Dustin; and other extended family members and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1996; a brother, Larry Shaw; two grandsons, Jacob and Jordan Kaas; and a brother-in-law, Don Howe.
