Patricia Ann Goodenow, age 85, of Spirit Lake, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. She was born on June 30, 1927, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Paul and Helen (Virtue) Hollister.
Patricia graduated from Mapleton High School in 1945, and St. Joseph's Nursing College in 1948. She was united in marriage to Bruce Goodenow on October 1, 1948, in Mapleton. They farmed and raised their family on the 140 year old Goodenow family farm southeast of Battle Creek. They retired to summers at Okoboji and winters in Scottsdale, AZ.
Patricia worked as a surgical nurse at the Battle Creek Hospital for many years. She did volunteer service on the Ida County Health Board. Patricia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Many "kids" will remember her work with the Presbyterian Youth Group, She enjoyed spending her spare time knitting, needle pointing, with her flowers and her cat, buying shoes and especially enjoyed her time with her family!
Patricia is survived by her husband, Bruce Goodenow of Spirit Lake; four sons, Michael Goodenow of Orlando, Florida and his children Stefani and Kristin, Mark Goodenow of Marshall, Minnesota, Mason Goodenow, and his wife, Sheryl of Ida Grove and their children Maggie, Abby, Lauren, and Matt, Brenda and her husband Terrance and their children Aidan and Clare, Jenni and her husband Greg with their son Cooper , and Mitchell Goodenow, and his wife, Jennifer of Waukee and their children Kelsey and Alex. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Clyde and John.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00P.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Patricia's name to the elevator project at the Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Interment will be on June 30, 2013, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek.
