1/30/2013 Iowa Soybean Association supports bridge testing program in Ida County
The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) and Soy Transportation Coalition are partnering with Iowa State University (ISU) and the Iowa Department of Transportation on a pilot project to implement bridge assessment technology.
The testing will be conducted by ISU researchers, using advanced sensing technology. The pilot program will test three bridges, one each in Ida, Sioux and Johnson Counties. The second testing project was conducted in Ida County on Jan. 22.
Transporting soybeans and ag commodities is just as important as raising those products and farmers are concerned about the conditions of the state's rural bridges. But today's engineering computation methods, in some cases, may be too conservative; resulting in the posting of unnecessary load restrictions or replacements.
