Patsye Muree Olson

1928 – 2025

PLANO, TEXAS - Patsye Muree Olson, known as “Pat” to her friends and family, passed away in peace on June 1, 2025 at the age of 97 in Plano, Texas. She lived a full, eventful, and meaningful life, bringing joy, laughter, and fun into the lives she touched.

Pat was born in Galva, on March 30, 1928, and graduated from Galva High School in May 1945. After high school, she graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, in August 1949. She then taught school in Audubon and Ida Grove for several years and subsequently joined the U.S. Navy where she held the rank of Second Lieutenant. During her years of service, she was stationed at the Corpus Christie Naval Air Station, assigned to the Special Services Division. After her service to our country, she moved to Houston, Texas in 1957, becoming a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran in 1962. Her last employment was with NPS Shaft Seals until her retirement on May 30, 2003 after 18 years with the company.

At the age of 17, Pat took flying lessons in Sac City, where she learned to fly solo in a Piper Cub plane. In addition, while in the Navy, Pat teamed with a bowling partner and they became All NAVY First Place Women’s Eastern Doubles Bowling Champions. She was always an avid sports fan who supported her Houston professional teams including the Comets, Astros, Oilers, Texans, and Rockets.

Pat was loved and will be remembered for her lively sense of humor, outgoing personality, and high level of energy. For several years she took great pride and joy in doing all the maintenance on her lake place in Onalaska, Texas.

Pat was preceded in death by her father and mother, Marion and Dorthy Olson of Galva, and her sister Bonnie J. McKenna of Bellevue, Washington. Pat is survived by her beloved family: sister Twila and husband Dick Weber of Prosper, Texas; nephew Scott and wife Shawna Borland of Frisco, Texas, and their daughters Casey Borland of The Colony, Texas, and Taylor and husband Kyle Kolb and their daughter Nora of Fort Worth, Texas; nephew Thomas and wife Michelle Borland of Dallas, Texas; and her sister Bonnie’s children: niece Michele and husband Paul Cournoyer of Snohomish, Washington, niece Erin and husband Michel Colwell of Leavenworth, Washington, and nephew Robert and wife Amy McKenna of Kirkland, Washington, along with many grand-nephews and nieces and their children.

Pat will be sorely missed by her friends and family - she was a “hoot.” She was also unfailingly thoughtful and generous. Her nephews, nieces, and their children all fondly recall all the years when they were growing up in which she always remembered their birthdays, sending cards with $2 bills tucked inside. When they got married, she never forgot their anniversaries.

Condolences may be sent to her sister Twila Weber, POB 44, Prosper, TX 75078.
