The Ridge View Raptors football team ran into a tough West Sioux (Hawarden) squad on Friday night in Holstein. The Falcons jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter, and increased the margin to 35-0 at halftime. Ridge View tightened up the defense in the second half, holding West Sioux scoreless the rest of the game. The Raptors’ offense was held in check however, and 35-0 would wind up being the final score. Ridge View managed only 27 passing yards and 35 rushing yards. Raptors coach Brian Bode, who had singled out West Sioux as the preseason district favorite, discussed the contest.
The Ridge View football squad broke open a 15-15 halftime tie, scoring early in the second half, and sealing the win with a fumble recovery in the end zone for a 29-15 homecoming victory. The Raptors got on the board first with a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jake Breyfogle. The extra point was good, making the score 7-0 at the seven minute mark of the first quarter. Sioux Central would answer with a short touchdown run of their own in the second quarter. The two-point conversion was good, and the Rebels claimed an 8-7 lead.
The OABCIG volleyball squad earned a 3-0 sweep of MVAO-COU last Tuesday in Odebolt. The Falcons won all three games handily, by scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-14. Haley Harms led OABCIG’s offensive attack with eight kills, while Rylee Krayenhagen put down seven kills. Krista Sibenaller and Alex Schroeder both contributed five kills. Schroeder also led the team in assists with 15, while Olivia Schroeder distributed nine assists. Defensively, Alex Schroeder led the way in blocks with three, while Krayenhagen was the leader in digs with 10.
The Ridge View girls and boys cross country squads took part in the MVAO-COU cross country meet in Mapleton on Thursday. In girls action, the Raptors took sixth place out of ten teams. Jaycie Vohs captured eight place out of 77 runners with a time of 21:14.12. Addy Tesch took 20th place in a time of 22:10.17. Madison Stowater finished in the top half of the field with a time of 23:26.80. Xaria Rojas turned in a respectable showing of 25:20.80. Molly Reiss finished shortly after her with a time of 26:15.70.
The Ridge View volleyball squad got a fairly tough match from the Westwood Rebels last Tuesday at Sloan, but the Raptors pulled off a 3-1 victory by scores of 25-21, 25-10, 21-25, and 25-22. Ridge View was led at the net by Sydney Blackmore with 10 kills, followed closely by Rowan Jensen with nine kills. Kiara Dutler was right behind them with seven kills. Taya Phillips and Lilly Whitmer led the team in assists with 18 apiece.
The OABCIG football squad came up against a mighty team in Spirit Lake on Friday night. Both teams came into the game unbeaten at 4-0. At least one poll had both teams ranked in the top five in the state. The Indians scored first, taking a 7-0 lead after one quarter. Another touchdown run in the second quarter gave Spirit Lake a 14-0 halftime lead. Spirit Lake scored again in the third quarter, and the lead grew to 21-0 after three periods of play.
The OABCIG football team got its first real test of the season on Friday night, as defending state champion Southeast Valley paid a visit to Ida Grove. The Jaguars were the only team to beat the Falcons last year, once in the regular season and again in the playoffs. The contest was the district opener for both teams.

The Raptors won by convincing scores of 25-10, 25-16, and 25-9. Ridge View’s offensive attack was led by Rowan Jensen with 10 kills. Madison Stowater and Sydney Blackmore both had six kills, while Gabi Mason put down five kills. Taya Phillips led the team in assists with 15, while Lilly Whitmer distributed seven assists.
The Ridge View football team ran into some tough competition on Friday night, as the Raptors opened district play with a loss to a talented Hull Western Christian squad on the road by a score of 42-7. The Wolfpack got on the board first with a touchdown run at the 5:42 mark of the first quarter. Western Christian would tack on another touchdown run with a minute and a half left in the quarter to make the score 14-0 after one period. Ridge View would respond with a touchdown run of their own, coming with nine minutes left in the second quarter, to cut the lead to 14-7.
The OABCIG volleyball squad traveled to Kingsley to take on the Kingsley-Pierson Panthers on Thursday night. The Falcons earned a 3-0 sweep, but it didn’t come easily. OABCIG won game one handily by a score of 25-16. The Panthers made game two a little more interesting, but the Falcons still managed a 25-20 win. In game three, Kingsley-Pierson gave it all they had to avoid the sweep, but OABCIG ultimately outlasted the Panthers 31-29 to earn the victory.
