The Ridge View wrestling squad defeated Denison 58-21 on January 11. Winning by fall for the Raptors were Lucas Else, Austin Pyle, Ian Shepherd, Kody Jacobson, and Logan Pickhinke. Winning by Major Decision was Conner Jacobson.
The Ridge View girls competed in the Ogden tournament on January 8. Shania Graybill, Izzy Deeds, and Daynia Werner all took home first place finishes for the Raptors. Tatum Shepherd finished second and Dani Kron finished third.
The OABCIG varsity girls took first place at the triangular meet at Rush Lanes in Sioux City on Tuesday, January 4. The Falcons tallied 1,976 pins vs Sioux City East (1,734) and West Sioux (1,609). OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Jade Wilcox (327), Kimberly Sholty (297), Daylyn Wilcox (283), Kaylee Monroe (226), and Abby Minor (208). Erika Swanger also bowled but her scores were not used.
The OABCIG boys bowling squad took on Sioux City East and West Sioux (Hawarden) on January 4 in Sioux City. The Falcons defeated West Sioux, but came up short against East. In round one, Damon Jones had the high game for the Falcons with a score of 211. Jones also had the high two-game series with a score of 370. Also cracking the 300 mark were Jackson Godbersen with a 324, Aidan Bower with a 314, and Evan Jordan with a 301. Zach Thayer was right behind with a 299, followed closely by Ben Hofmeister with a 289.
After a competitive first quarter, the OABCIG boys basketball squad pulled away from Lawton-Bronson on Friday night in Ida Grove. The Falcons jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but the Eagles chipped away at that lead until they had tied the game at 15 apiece after the first quarter. OABCIG pulled away again in the second quarter to lead 30-21 at halftime. The Falcons used a strong third quarter to push the margin to 52-33 after three stanzas. OABCIG finished the game strong to come away with the 69-43 win.
The OABCIG girls basketball team hung tough for a half against a talented group from South Central Calhoun, but eventually succumbed to the Titans. The Falcons played especially well in the first quarter, taking a 13-11 lead into the first quarter break. OABCIG was still in the game at halftime, trailing only 27-21. But the Titans outscored the Falcons 16-2 in the third quarter to take a commanding 43-23 lead after three quarters. SCC was able to coast home from there for a 56-30 victory.
The Ridge View wrestling squad took part in dual meet action in Carroll on Tuesday, January 4. The Raptors defeated Audubon 48-21. Clayton Jacobson and Ian Shepherd pinned their opponents, while Noah Shepherd and Logan Pickhinke won by decision. Ridge View also defeated Coon Rapids-Bayard 60-12. Tanner Edwards won by pin for the Raptors. Against Carroll Kuemper, Tatum Shepherd pinned her opponent.
Ridge View head football coach Dale Tokheim has announced that Logan Pickhinke and Ian Shepherd, members of the Ridge View football team, were named to the IFCA (Iowa Football Coaches Association) Academic All-State team. To be considered for this honor, a player must be a senior starter with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.7 or better at the end of their junior year. The player must also be involved in other extracurricular activities, and be recommended for the award by his head coach.
After a competitive first half, the Ridge View girls basketball squad turned it up a notch in the third quarter and took down Kingsley-Pierson with a 59-40 victory. With the win, the Raptor girls remain undefeated in Western Valley Conference play.
Ridge View built a 6-1 lead to start the game, but the Panthers fought back and cut the margin to 6-5 after one quarter. The Raptors pushed the lead to 17-11 in the second quarter, but Kingsley-Pierson trimmed the lead to 19-16 going into the halftime break.
The Sioux Central Rebels got off to a blazing start against Ridge View and never looked back, winning a 65-27 contest in Schaller. Sioux Central took a 24-3 lead after one quarter and pushed the margin to 40-10 at halftime. The Rebels kept the pressure on in the second half, building a 60-18 lead after three quarters before coasting to a 65-27 victory.
As of the Christmas break, several basketball players from OABCIG and Ridge View are leading the Western Valley Conference in a variety of statistical categories. In boys basketball, Cade Harriman of Ridge View is leading the conference in scoring with 174 points scored on the season. Beckett DeJean of OABCIG is currently fourth in the conference with 139 points scored.
