Two Holstein Girl Scouts, Kiara Dutler and Grace Venteicher, received their Girl Scout Gold Award at Court of Awards on Sunday, Nov. 20. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting. Dutler's project was Un"MASK"ing The Shortage of PPE During A Pandemic and Venteicher's project was Children’s Hospital Tie Blankets. Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn the Gold Award.

Sheila Petersen presents the Holiday Raffle Table, a fundraiser for the Battle Creek Library. There are a variety of decor, blankets, books, plants, and gift baskets donated by members of the community who believe in the library. Sheila praises the people for their wonderful donations.
The Ida Grove Library had a free movie for kids and families to watch this past Wednesday. Their technology has been updated for their movie viewing due to a grant by Ida County Community Betterment Foundation.
In a closely contested race for Ida County Board of Supervisors District 3, Devlun Whiteing narrowly defeated Todd Conover. The two were vying for the spot left open when Supervisor Rhett Leonard decided not to seek another term. Whitening garnered 491 votes for 55 percent of the total, while Conover received 409 votes for 45 percent of the total. Whiteing currently serves as Mayor of Ida Grove, and a new mayor will be appointed to serve the remainder of his term.
Castletown was complete with jolly helpers all over town on Sunday, Nov. 20. First stop, a delicious pancake or french toast breakfast and oh! Do not forget the sausage! Kiwanis jolly helpers served with flair as Rhett Leonard attempted a flip of the pancakes in the air! Quite a crowd had filled the United Methodist Church to begin the day with this wonderful breakfast or lunch indeed.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey and Rhett Leonard. Creston Schubert participated via phone conference.
County Engineer Jeff Williams presented a salary certification for Shane Walker, Operator/Bookkeeper at $28 per hour effective Nov. 15.
A final voucher for Cedar Valley with regards to the overlay project of M25 was presented. The Chair was authorized to sign the voucher.
OABCIG school board members heard concerns about bullying as a community member spoke during the most recent board meeting.
Michelle Spotts was concerned about the bullying going on in the high school with the phenomenon ongoing for a while now, she said. Locations have included classroom and a school bus incident. Michelle said that her son was beaten up recently and that he knew he was going to get beaten up because he helped another kid.
Scott Clark just recently became the Director for the Recreation Center in Ida Grove. Scott has worked for the rec center going on three years now serving as receptionist and then interim director. The last two summers, Scott has served as umpire for the Rec league. Scott states the activities are as such: There may be a craft show or fair coming up for Christmas. Basketball season is coming up with games starting in January. Then will be Golf and then baseball and softball in the summer.
The Galva-Holstein Board of Education and the Schaller-Crestland Board of Education met in joint session on Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Holstein media center.
Board members in attendance were Grant Aschinger, Don Kalin, Beth Schossow, Matthew Wittrock, Jamie Whitmer and Jeff Witzke. Administrators in attendance were Superintendent Adam Bisenius and Principals Beth Bellinghausen, Katrisha Rinnan and Joshua Sussman.
