Area communities have set times for trick or treating on Monday, Oct. 31.
Ida Grove
St. Paul Lutheran Church will host their annual “Trunk or Treat” on Sunday from 3-5. The Ida Grove Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Trick or Treat Kickoff at 5:30 p.m. in Godbersen Park. The event will feature a safety talk by Sheriff Wade Harriman, and Trick or Treat bags for all kids. Free popcorn and a treat are sponsored by the Ida County Farm Bureau.
Joan Bengford, an Enrolled Agent at H&R Block in Ida Grove, has seen her share of changes at the business since she began working for the company. And Bengford knows that H&R Block provides a variety of services.
“We do individual taxes, corporate taxes, and partnerships,” explained Benfford. “We also offer bookkeeping, payroll, and a whole gamut of business services, including bank reconciliations.”
Bengford talked about the employees currently working for the company in our area.
The Ida Grove City Council met on Monday, October 17 at 6 p.m. in the temporary city hall in the rec center. Council members in attendance were Gregor Ernst, Jason Schable, Jared Bogue, Ange Johnson, and Jeff Miesner, as well as mayor Devlun Whiteing. The council approved a change in their meeting start times from 6 to 5:30 p.m. The council then approved a Resolution setting bid dates and directing advertisement for the Ida Grove downtown facade project.
The Ida County Conservation Board (ICCB) met on Monday, Oct. 10 at the Conservation Center in Moorehead Park. Board Members in attendance were Randy Vogt, vice-chair; Sue Knop, and Don Poggensee, as well as ICCB Director Zach Hall.
The board approved payment of monthly bills, including monthly fuel costs, chainsaw repair/purchase, and hydrant replacement.
The Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove (OABCIG) School Board met for the Annual Meeting, followed by the Regular Meeting on Monday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the OABCIG High School in Ida Grove. Board members in attendance were Goodman, Konradi, Rasmussen, Petersen, Loger, and Lundell. Also attending the meeting were Matt Alexander, Superintendent, and Julia Mogensen, Board Secretary.
The Galva-Holstein Board of Education and the Schaller-Crestland Board of Education met in joint session on Monday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Schaller-Crestland Media Center in Schaller. In attendance were board members Grant Aschinger, Tyler Gebers, Don Kalin, Beth Schossow, Jamie Whitmer, and Jeff Witzke, as well as Superintendent Adam Bisenius and Principals Bellinghausen, Rinnan and Sussman.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Oct. 11 at 9:30 in the courthouse. Board members present were Chair Raymond Drey and Rhett Leonard.
County Engineer Jeff Williams presented the updated salary certifications, which included the approved $1.50 per hour increase. The salaries effective Oct. 31, are as follows: Darek Boysen-$25.50; Tom Cooper-$26.97; Darin Dausel-$25.65; Kent Hinrickson-$25.50; Jered Iversen-$25.50; Andy Johnson-$25.42; DJ Meek-$25.50; Trevor Reitz $25.42 and Tristian Senhen-$26.34.
Traffic by OABCIG’s Odebolt Elementary and city betterment including what to do with city hall were on tap as Odebolt City Council met. During its October meeting, council heard community concerns including the flow of traffic following the one-way change on 6th Street near the school. Resident Bobbi Lohrville asked council whether the turn could be made more conducive for traffic going north at that location.
The Battle Creek City Council met on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Community Hall. Council members in attendance were Jary Vermeys, Myra Meek, and Jeanette Holmes. Doug Loehr was present to address concerns about his lot at 414 Clara Street. The council concluded that if he shows a continuation of progress and effort, then they are satisfied. Neighbors concerned with property lines are asked to get with Doug directly as the city does not determine those.
The Galva City Council met in regular session on Oct. 10 with Mayor Wanberg and council members Cunningham, Freese, Hustedt, Langel, and Wuebker in attendance. Kevin Carpenter gave the council a demonstration of Silversmith GIS Mapping. Following discussion, the council decided that the City of Galva did not want to enter into an agreement with Silversmith at this time. The council agreed to approve the building permit application from Shelby Barnes for a new deck at 305 Main Street.
