While some construction plans in Ida County have had snags finding bidders, the Ida County Historical Society’s plan for restoration work on the Moorehead House Museum in Ida Grove have found a taker. They discussed a bid and cost estimate during their regular meeting Aug. 25. The historical society plans on doing exterior work to upkeep the old Moorehead house, primarily focused on repainting. The contractor who has offered to do the work gave a cost estimate of $12,575.
Midwest Industries Inc. hosted a Product Day Aug. 25 at Lake LaJune in Ida Grove, inviting all of their employees to see the fruits of their labor.
Jon Devitt, president and CEO of Midwest, said of the event, “We try to bring the whole team together to see the end product.” Midwest manufactures marine products, but as an Iowa company they aren’t located close to marine markets, which means that employees don’t often get to see the products they built in everyday use. “It’s good to get them out here and recognize them for it,” Devitt said.
With school back in session, some of the new staff in Ridge View’s Galva-Holstein district elementary have agreed to a Q&A session to introduce themselves to the surrounding community.

After reviewing the bill for grinding up felled trees, the Ida Grove City Council was of the opinion that they had traded burning wood for burning money. In their regular meeting Aug. 15, they decided to return to burning as soon as possible.
The start of the school year doesn’t only bring new students but also new teachers for the OABCIG district. To introduce themselves to the community, the staff agreed to a quick Q&A with the Courier.

Jess will teach Physical Science (General Science, Chemistry, Physics) at the high school. A Le Mars native, she went to college at the University of South Dakota and finished her degree at Lancaster Bible College.

The Ida Grove City Council is planning to take action after Bethany Henderson advocated at the regular meeting last Monday for maintenance on the town’s sidewalks and bringing them up to ADA compliance. Henderson spoke on behalf of her mother, Laura Stangl, who is visually impaired.
As the implementation of renovations for the Ida County Courthouse inch nearer, the Ida County Board of Supervisors has approved the architectural plans for the expected addition. They discussed this and other county business during their regular meeting Aug. 9.
The board voiced concern about the upcoming bid after the Ida Grove City Council recently reported not receiving any bids for their planned rebuild of city hall, but concluded that would only be something to face after bidding. A pre-bid meeting had been planned for the following afternoon, and bids open Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
