After a slow start, the Ridge View girls basketball squad fought back to triumph over West Monona in Western Valley Conference action Friday night. It was the Spartans who looked like the better team early in the game, as they built a 9-3 lead after one quarter. The Raptors clawed their way back in the second quarter, trimming the lead to 17-14 at the halftime break. By the end of the third quarter, Ridge View had tied the game at 31. The Raptors dominated the action in the final period to earn a 46-39 victory.
In the consolation round of the Western Valley Conference basketball tournament, the West Monona boys fended off Ridge View by seven points. The Raptors held a slight 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans came back to tie the game at 27 by halftime. A competitive third quarter ended with West Monona holding on to a slim 38-36 lead. The Spartans outscored Ridge View by five in the fourth quarter to hang on for a 53-46 win.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad took part in the Super Regional tournament at the Tyson Event Center on Friday. Ridge View won the team title in the 23-team tournament with 205.5 points, edging out Spencer who had 202 points. The Raptors got first place finishes from Tatum Shepherd, Destiny Brown, Isabella Deeds, and Daynia Werner. Those four, plus Isabel Ekchan, Jolynn Tiefenthaler, and Maya Waldo all qualified for the girls state wrestling tournament.
The Westwood Rebels squeezed by Ridge View in the opening round of the Western Valley Conference boys basketball tournament. Westwood came to Holstein as the five seed, taking on the four seed Raptors. Ridge View got off to a hot start, building a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. The Rebels fought back in the second quarter to tie the game at 33 going into the halftime break. A hard-fought third quarter ended with the game still deadlocked, this time at 44 apiece. In the final period, Westwood outscored the Raptors by four points to escape with a 62-58 victory.
The Falcon boys basketball squad got off to a great start in the opening round of the Western Valley Conference tournament, dispatching of Woodbury Central 79-26 on Thursday in Ida Grove. OABCIG built a 26-11 lead after one quarter, then increased the margin to 48-16 at halftime. The third quarter was more competitive, but the Falcons still led 61-25 heading into the final period of play. In the fourth quarter, OABCIG outscored the Wildcats 18-1 to run away with the 79-26 victory.
The Falcon boys basketball squad stayed unbeaten against IKM-Manning, but it wasn’t easy. It looked like a blowout was in the making when the game started, as OABCIG jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter. A competitive second quarter saw the Falcons take a 35-19 lead into the halftime break. The Wolves would claw back in the third quarter, however, outscoring OABCIG 17-11 to pull within 46-36 heading into the final period of play. The Falcons did just enough in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 55-47 victory.
After a slow start, the OABCIG girls basketball squad notched another victory, this time over IKM-Manning on Tuesday night in Ida Grove. It was the Wolves who took the early lead, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage after one quarter. The Falcons fought back, however, outscoring IKM-Manning 15-6 in the second quarter to grab a 20-17 halftime lead. OABCIG also dominated the third quarter, building a 34-20 cushion heading into the final period of play. The Falcons held on from there to earn the 46-35 victory.
The OABCIG boys bowling squad defeated Harlan 2750 to 2173 last week. In round one, Ben Hofmeister had the high score with a 233. Also topping the 200-mark were Blaise Wilcox with a 223 and Connor Hoegh with a 204. Hofmeister also had the high two-game series with a 425. Blaise Wilcox was close behind with a 405. Connor Hoegh fired a 361, while Marshall Mogensen rolled a 346. Dillon Hanneman and Evan Jordan turned in identical scores of 334.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad got all it could handle in last Monday’s 63-59 victory over Ar-We-Va at Westside. The Raptors got off to a good start, building a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. The Rockets would fight back to trim the margin to 31-27 at halftime. A competitive third quarter ended with Ridge View clinging to a 47-44 lead. The Raptors finished the game strong and fended off Ar-We-Va for a 63-59 victory.
In the opening round of the Western Valley Conference tournament, Ridge View came up just short in a defensive struggle against MVAO-COU on Friday night in Mapleton. Neither team could score to start the game, but the Raptors gradually built a 6-0 lead. With one second left in the first quarter, the Rams fired a three-point shot that swished through the net to cut the lead to 6-3 after one period of play. A competitive second quarter ended with Ridge View clinging to a 16-14 halftime lead.
