The Ida Area Farmers’ Market is beginning its eighth season June 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the City Park. The market will run beginning June 23 through Sept. 30.
Kenny Tietsort will once again be at the market with lots of produce for customers to enjoy.
Grote’s Goodies will join the market again this summer with her glass, wood and clay custom made jewelry. Sunshine and Flora will be at the market with fresh cut flower arrangements.

The fun kicks off Thursday, June 16 with “Old Fashioned Night” set for 5 to 9 p.m. at Cornerhaus 101 with a free meal at 6 p.m. over at the Holstein State Theatre and a free movie following there as well at 7 p.m.
Also as an option, at the same time trivia will be on tap at Cobblestone Inn & Suites.
A storm that slammed into northwest Iowa ahead of Memorial Day caused quite a bit of damage with a bit of something unique to Holstein among the impacts, but the community is working to put things right.
The late May storm damaged buildings and tipped a semi just off of Highway 20, but perhaps its biggest impact was to Holstein’s Avenue of Flags.
“The Avenue of Flags started 13 years ago and represented men and women who had connections to Holstein,” said Alex Conover, a member of Holstein’s Chamber of Commerce.
Roughly, 500 flags were part of the Avenue of Flags.
Ida County proved a scenic part of the experience as riders took part in a trial run ahead of next month’s RAGBRAI. With six weeks to go, RAGBRAI is taking shape as finishing touches are put on this year’s ride.
One part of that is a week-long practice run along the route by riders ahead of RAGBRAI’s main event. Anne Lawrie, a marketing director for RAGBRAI, got to take part in this year’s trial run.
By Sunday afternoon, she was pulled off to the side in Ida Grove after having journeyed from Sergeant Bluff to Ida Grove on the first leg of the trip.
An unidentified driver caused $25,000 in damage at Market Avenue and Highway 175 Saturday after running a stop sign and damaging railroad track and the driver’s own vehicle.
The crash took place 2:41 a.m. when the driver was southbound on Market Avenue and did not stop at the railroad intersection for Market Avenue and Highway 175.
Running through the intersection, the driver struck the track for the railroad.
Area voters will head to the polls June 7 as Iowa’s Primary Election takes place.
The polls open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.
Ahead of the vote, the Ida County Courier and Holstein Advance reached out to candidates and offered them a chance to introduce themselves to voters.
All candidates were offered the same list of questions including a chance to explain why they were running, what they view as the top issues defining the race and what the first action he or she would take if elected.
Fireworks till take place Friday, June 10 to kick off the weekend before most of the events Saturday.
For the 2022 version of Creek Days, registration will kick off at 7 a.m. Saturday for a 7:30 a.m. 5K run/walk for the adults and a 1K for the kids with registration at the OABCIG Odebolt bus barn.
Working up an appetite from the 5K, participants can head over to the pancake breakfast at the community center as it runs from 7 to 10 a.m.
An Ida County mental health provider recently celebrated a new location in Ida Grove. Plains Area Mental Health moved earlier this year from its former location in Ida Grove in the 700 block of East 2nd Street to 101 2nd St.
Now settled in, the office is open for business in the new location.
Ribbon cutting took place May 23 with chamber members and staff gathering for the event.
The Ida Grove office is one of 15 locations throughout northwest Iowa operated by Plains Area Mental Health, which was founded in 1972.
