The Ida Grove RAGBRAI Executive Committee met Wednesday, April 6. Those attending were Stephanie Konradi, Jake Sholty, Tonya Rehse, Jared Bogue, Rhett Leonard, Jeff Miesner, Amy Forbes, Kathy Leonard and Kurtis Krager. Also attending were Sheila Redenius and Ashley Collins. Ida Grove will serve as an overnight host town Sunday, July 24.
Longtime OABCIG teacher and coach Steve Brown passed away suddenly last week. Brown was a well-liked and highly respected member of the school system and the community. He had retired following the 2020-21 school year after serving the district for 44 years.
The Galva-Holstein board of education is not looking to end its sharing arrangement with Schaller-Crestland, but G-H board members do want to talk with their counterparts at S-C about the finer points of their agreement.
During a special meeting Thursday, G-H board members approved a letter of intent to terminate the current agreements for sharing in place with S-C.
That termination would be effective June 30, 2023.
The goal is improve efficiencies in sharing without ending sharing itself.
An informational meeting was held at the Ida Grove country club on Tuesday, March 29. RAGBRAI committee members were on hand to present information specific to businesses and answer questions. The RAGBRAI overnight stay in Ida Grove will be on July 24.
Dustin Schiernbeck of Ida Grove is getting a much-deserved break after 26 years of service with the Ida Grove ambulance crew. Schiernbeck started with the ambulance service in 1996. He has served as Director, Assistant Director, and helped with training of other crew members. Schiernbeck can recall the moment he knew he wanted to be involved with the ambulance service.
“I lived two blocks from my grandfather, and he had a heart attack,” explained Schiernbeck. “I wanted to know what to do if he had another one. I went through the first responder and EMT classes.”
Patrick Miller, principal of Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove High School, has been named the 2022 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa.
You may have noticed a different look to the tennis courts at the city park in Ida Grove. Thanks to contributions from the Harold and Leone Godbersen Foundation, GOMACO/Godbersen Smith, and Gary and Sharon Godbersen, two new pickleball courts and a tennis court were built. Godbersen-Smith Construction did the concrete work on the courts.
The first day of RAGBRAI will start in Sergeant Bluff and hit Bronson before venturing through Battle Creek before stopping for the night in Ida Grove.
Official announcement of the full route was made Sunday.
The first day will include 53.2 miles and climb 2,545 feet.
A theme of the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force has been announced along with a Mile of Silence. Anthon will be the day’s meeting town before the riders check out Ida Grove.
A packed house of about 200 people greeted Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds as she visited Ida County Friday, among stops through the state as she hits the campaign trail ahead of November’s General Election.
Ida County and out-of-county residents alike turned out for the event at Cobblestone Inn & Suites with residents of at least four counties making it out for the event.
Approximately 70 people attended the RAGBRAI community meeting held March 13 at the King Theatre in Ida Grove. Ida Grove will serve as an overnight host town Sunday, July 24 for the Des Moines Register’s annual event.
The local executive committee introduced themselves and gave highlights of the committees they serve. Those members are: Jared and Heather Bogue, Rhett and Kathy Leonard, Jeff and Geneva Miesner, Tonya Rehse, Amy Forbes and Kurtis Krager. Stephanie Konradi serves on the advisory board.
