Ridge View High School seniors were recognized with numerous scholarships and awards during senior honors night on Tuesday, May 17. The following scholarships and awards were handed out:
National Honor Society - Hannah Ehrp, Jerzey Endrulat, Taylor Hamrick, Brady Clausen, Graca Goettsch, Conner Naberhaus, Vanessa Neumann, Katherine Pickhinke, Logan Pickhinke, Ian Shepherd, Cameron Spina, Morgan Todd, Emma Vohs, Abigail Wandrey, Kael Wiese, Hannah Yockey.
One of the biggest election seasons in quite a while is heating up with the approach of the primary for Ida County voters.
Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, June 7 with the polls open at 7 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. as residents try to figure out where to head to vote following redistricting with the census.
As voters get ready to head to the polls, election staff have been at work already getting things ready including with a public test of voting equipment May 5.
Kenneth L. Van Kekerix, chairman of the Board of United Bank of Iowa, has announced the promotion of Daniel L. Dotzler to president and chief executive officer (CEO) effective June 1. Dotzler will replace Owen Bolte who has served as president and CEO for the past 14 years. Bolte will continue to serve on the Board of Directors of United Bank of Iowa and the holding company, Ida Grove Bancshares, Inc.
Ben Schmunk has been named park and recreation director for Holstein. “I’m originally from Sioux Falls, SD, where most of my family resides,” said Schmunk. “Before moving to Holstein, I went to South Dakota State University for my bachelor's degree in health education.”

During public comment, members of the OABCIG heard a request for additional preschool teacher as residents were on hand to voice their concerns about the idea of busing some students from the Odebolt center over to Ida Grove.
One idea raised was for the district to use one of the staff resignations in the district to provide the FTE needed for another preschool teacher.
With the may 9 meeting, board members heard results of a survey in favor of the idea as Superintendent Matt Alexander clarified remarks on the length of time students could spend on the bus.
Ida County Conservation is turning a wary eye toward soaring fuel costs. During its regular meeting, the Ida County Conservation Board took a look at bills including the cost of diesel fuel.
As fuel prices skirt around record territory amid soaring inflation and a drop in domestic energy production, the results are impacting agencies that use vehicles. With county conservation and its outdoor work, vehicle use is a necessity.
So, conservation continues to feel the pinch, a factor board members are continuing to monitor.
Commencement at Ridge View High School is set for Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. in the high school gym in Holstein with a long-time educator set to be the keynote speaker.
Retiring after a full half of a century in education, Dave Hickman will be the commencement speaker at Ridge View this year.
The choir will perform My Wish by Robson and Steele.
Class officers for 2022 include President Morgan Todd, Vice President Katherine Pickhinke, Secretary Kael Wiese, Treasurer Emma Vohs.
Ridge View girls will indeed have a shot at glory on the mat as Ridge View formally has an offering for the newly-sanctioned sport of girls wrestling.
Announcement that the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union had approved girls wrestling as the first new sport in years to be sanctioned has districts across the state scrambling to come up with the official infrastructure for the sport.
The sport will see a single class at least for its initial appearance, so big and small schools will all face off for this first year.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, May 10 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert, and Rhett Leonard. County engineer Jeff Williams presented an IDOT application for use of Highway Right of Way for Sac County Mutual Telephone Company located in Corwin Township Section 19; Maple Township Section 24; and Garfield Township Section 7 along Highway 175. The board approved the application.
