Over the last couple years, the Arthur public library board has been spearheading an effort to renovate the Arthur community building, which contains the library. The group, along with numerous volunteers, has made significant improvements to the building.
The community building was completed in 1983 and managed by the Community Club. In 2006, when the Community Club dissolved, they gave their small meeting room for the library to expand, and transferred ownership of the entire building to the library.
The Ida Grove City Council met in special session on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the temporary City Hall at the Rec Center. Council members in attendance were Gregor Ernst, Jason Schable, Jared Bogue, and Jeff Miesner, as well as Mayor Devlun Whiteing and City Clerk Heather Sweeden. Sweeden provided an overview of the budget proposal, explaining that general fund revenues do not cover general fund expenses, and answered questions from the council. The council discussed keeping department heads to their budget allotments, and ways to decrease expenses and increase revenues.

Over a year after a fatal crash on Highway 31 near Washta, extensive collision reconstruction and investigation has led the Iowa Highway Patrol to find that Ethan David Juelfs, 34, of Cushing, was negligent in the Nov. 15, 2020 crash, which saw his vehicle fail to negotiate a curve and head down an embankment.
