The Ida Grove ambulance department recently received two new Max Air helmets. The helmets are controlled air purifying respirators. They allow the ambulance crew to work with COVID-19 patients without fear of catching the virus, or without fear of possibly transferring the virus from themselves to patients. The helmets were made possible by donations from the community.

The Ida Grove City Council met on Monday, January 17 at the temporary City Hall in the Rec Center. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Devlun Whiteing at 6 p.m. Board members in attendance were Jeff Miesner, Jared Bogue, and Ange Johnson. Gregor Ernst was present electronically. Ethan Joy of JEO Consulting was present to provide recommendation on awarding the water utility improvement project bids. One bid was received for constructing well #9 from King Construction in the amount of $1,299,760.20 (estimated cost was $762,750).
A difficult time for Iowa schools has one area superintendent hoping people reach out to their legislators.
Requirements left and right, COVID emergency protocols and a tight hiring situation for staff and substitutes is not making this an easy time for schools.
“If there ever was a year to give school districts five percent supplemental aid this was the year to do it,” said Superintendent Matt Alexander.

The Ida County Cattlemen and Ida County Pork Producers held their joint banquet on January 8 at Veterans Memorial Hall in Holstein. Backdraft Bar and Grill of Holstein catered the meal and Tiefenthaler Quality Meats of Holstein provided hors d’ oeuvres. FFA members from Ridge View and OABCIG helped serve the meal. A full house enjoyed the banquet, entertainment, and socializing.

The Ida Grove City Council met on Monday, January 3rd in the temporary City Hall at the Rec Center. Mayor Devlun Whiteing called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. In attendance were council members Gregor Ernst, Jeff Miesner, Jason Schable, Jared Bogue, and Assistant Attorney Ryan Gaskins. The board approved Resolution 2022-3, appointing Ange Johnson to the City Council At-Large position. The council discussed the train blocking intersections in excess of 10 minutes, which violates City Code. City Clerk Heather Sweeden will reach out to Landus.
An official cause of death for an Ida Grove man who died while attempting to flee from authorities has been now released as authorities try to piece together just what happened. Meanwhile, funeral details have not been posted for David Cain Downing, 47.
According to a report from Iowa State Patrol, Downing was taken by Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Services to the State Medical Examiner’s Office following his late evening crash at the Crawford Creek Recreational Area.
OABCIG’s Cooper De-Jean was named the All-American Bowl Adidas Player of the Year Jan. 2. An Iowa Department of Transportation truck treating the roadways was totaled and a flatbed semi was likewise put out of commission after a crash on U.S. 20.
Timothy Jay Hoy, 53, of Anthon, was taken to Horn Memorial Hospital following the crash that took place as he was applying brine solution to the highway.
The other driver, Blake Edward Greenfield, 47, of Webster City, was eastbound as was Hoy when Greenfield failed to see the orange DOT vehicle.
