The Ridge View girls track and field squad picked up another title, this time taking first place in the Raider Relays at Sac City. The Raptors scored 193 team points, compared to second place IKM-Manning with 112 points.
Taya Phillips took first place in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 13.46 seconds. Gabi Mason won second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.07 seconds, while Phillips finished fourth in a time of 28.61 seconds. Madison Stowater captured second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.28.
The Ridge View girls track and field squad earned a first place finish at the annual Russ Kraai Relays in Holstein on Tuesday. The Raptors scored 172.5 team points, compared to second place Sioux Central with 139 points. Madison Stowater placed third in the high jump competition with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. Shae Dutler captured first place in the long jump contest with a leap of 16 feet, 4 inches, while Gabi Mason took third place with a jump of 15 feet, 6 inches.
The Ridge View boys track and field squad competed at the Raider Relays in Sac City on Friday. The Raptors finished fifth in the 10-team field with 82 total points. Westwood won the meet with 132 team points.
OABCIG boys golf coach Kurt Hofmeister shared his thoughts on the 2023 season. Hofmeister discussed who the team lost to graduation, as well as his top returning players.
“Our key loss to graduation was Jackson Godbersen,” said Hofmeister. “Our top returning players are Griffin Diersen, Ben Hofmeister, Kale Ladwig, Kane Ladwig and Axton Miller.”
Miller won the state golf championship for the Falcons last season. Hofmeister talked about kids that might play a bigger role this season.
OABCIG girls golf coach Jacob Henderson is excited for the 2023 season. Henderson discussed who he lost to graduation, as well as who his top returning players are.
“We did lose one of our top golfers from last year in Avaree Miller,” said Henderson. “But we have several varsity players returning from last year. It will be good to have our state qualifier back, Rylee Krayenhagen.”
Henderson talked about newcomers that might be able to help the team.
Raptors golf coach Alex Warnke has a solid group of returning golfers. Warnke talked about his top returning performers from last season, and top prospects to fill lost players from last year’s team.
“We have returning letterwinners in Levi Albers, Cayden Clausen, Gabe Chance, and Gavin Vohs. Some of our top prospects include Jackson Struck, Kyle Burk, Kellen Clausen, Drew Burk, and Robert Forristal.”
Warnke shared what he considers to be the team's strengths.
Ridge View girls golf coach Brian Bode has an energetic group of lady golfers looking forward to the upcoming season. The Raptors did lose Emma Vohs, a regional finals qualifier to graduation, but return starters Beth Mentzer, Kierstin Volkert, Emma Mentzer, and Addison Voge. Coach Bode will also look for help from some key newcomers in Claire Wandrey, Natalie Madsen, Zoey Aschinger, Callie Wendt, Mazee Henningson, and Valeria Najera. Bode discussed the key strengths of the team.
The OABCIG and Ridge View boys golf squads took part in a triangular with Cherokee in Ida Grove on Friday. The Falcons won the meet with a score of 154, while the Raptors finished second by firing a 167. OABCIG’s Kale Ladwig won medalist honors with a score of 36, narrowly defeating runner-up Kellen Clausen of Ridge View with a 37. Other OABCIG scores were Kane Ladwig (38), Axton Miller (39), Griffin Diersen (41), Ben Hofmeister (46), and Cade Mason (50).
Ridge View’s scores were Drew Burk (42), Levi Albers (43), Gavin Vohs (45), Robert Forristal (45), and Jackson Struck (47).
The Ridge View and OABCIG girls golf teams took part in a triangular with Cherokee at Holstein on Friday. Cherokee won the meet with a score of 204, while OABCIG fired a 213 and Ridge View scored a 216. The Raptors’ Beth Mentzer earned runner-up honors by firing a 46. Other Ridge View scores were Zoey Aschinger (55), Callie Wendt (56), Natalie Madsen (59), and Emma Mentzer (61). The Falcons were led by Rylee Krayenhagen with a 46. Other OABCIG scores were Bente de Vries (52), Hayden Zimmerman (53), Gwen Jacobson (62), Olivia Schroeder (71), and Karter Hemer (74).
The OABCIG track and field squads took part in the Lynn Jolly Relays in Cherokee on Thursday. In girls results, Stella Remer took 13th place in the discus throw with a toss of 80 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Deim Reis was right behind her with a throw of 76 feet, 10 inches. Remer also won 11th place in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 3 inches, followed closely by Reis with a toss of 27 feet.
